From the producer: We believe that quality is born in the vineyard. The land on which we planted vineyards has been overgrown for the last 50 years. Fertilizers or sprays were never used on them. Vines planted in poor soil and shallow soils grow modestly. In sunny and airy locations, grapevine diseases can be controlled without the use of synthetic preservatives. Thus, even with greater respect and coexistence with nature, we can produce healthy and ripe grapes and from it healthy and strong wines that reflect the character of our wine-growing region.
White grape originating on Croatia’s Istra peninsular, and now the second most planted variety in Croatia after Graševina. It produces mainly varietal wines, often with a slightly green hue and an appealing honeyed tang. The variety is also known in north-east Italy as Malvasia Istriana.
The family organic wine farm Rodica is located in the heart of Slovenian Istria, in the village of Truške near Marezige above Koper. The cellar lies on top of a hill overlooking the sea of the Gulf of Trieste and the unspoiled nature of the Dragonja River. The vineyards are spread on the southern slopes of the Istrian hills at an altitude of 250 to 350 m. We cultivate 60,000 vines on 15 hectares, planted mainly with autochthonous varieties of refoška, malvasia and yellow muscat and others, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah and pinot gris.
