🍇 Malvasia

Region: Umbria, Italy

Farming: Biodynamic 🌙

Notes:  This cuvée’s hue is a magnificent deep gold, slightly cloudy. In the glass, this wine is highly expressive and aromatic. Scents of delicate white flowers, orange slices draped in honey, and whispers of caramel. On the palette the notes continue with hints of zingy citruses, chamomile and stone fruits. The terrior shines through with herbaceous fresh earthy and minerality. Green tea like tannins with a strong and lengthy pallet.

The "Scarparo" vineyard of Malvasia Bianca, once left neglected for a decade, was brought back to life by the Mattioli family. The traditional barriers were removed and the vines were given a stable structure. This wine showcases pure Malvasia grapes from 70-year-old vines, fermented spontaneously with 3 days skin maceration. It is aged solely in stainless steel, with no added sulfur, filtration or fining.

Vittorio Mattioli, his wife Anna and their daughter Annalisa live together with 3 generations of their family inside the tiny village overlooking the valley below with the high Apennine Mountains. The elevation is some 500+ meters and the soils are a mixture of calcium, iron, clay, tufo and travertine limestone. Though the total production of Collecapretta is only some 8000 bottles in a good year, the family chooses to vinify many different cuvee's in hopes of expressing the vineyard and grape varieties at their best.
